About strengths based practice

Strengths based practice, interchangeably referred to as the strengths approach, is an effective and powerful way of working with individuals, families, groups, organisations and communities to bring hope and find solutions in the face of difficulties or adversity.

Strengths based practice is concerned with respect, inclusion, collaboration and empowerment. It embraces positive attitudes about people and their potential, focusing on their strengths, aspirations and resources as a means of bringing change.

It is highly relevant for social workers, counsellors, youth workers and community workers, managers, supervisors, mentors and coaches, community groups, teams and organisations across the entire human service sector.
